English new wave band Classix Nouveaux, formed in 1979, originated when Jak Airport and B.P. Hurding left the punk band X-Ray Spex. The group consisted initially of Sal Solo on vocals, Mik Sweeney on bass/keyboard, Jak Airport on guitar, and B.P. Hurding on drums; Jak Airport was later replaced by Gary Steadman (guitar). Their first gig took place on August 25, 1979, at London's Music Machine. Classix Nouveaux gained attention with their dramatic image, aligning them with the New Romantic movement. In 1980, they released "Robot's Dance", which reached number 22 on the UK Indie Chart and became a popular alternative dance track. Their debut album Night People was released in May 1981, featuring the singles "Guilty" and "Tokyo". The following year, their second album La Verité included the hit single "Is It A Dream", which peaked at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. Despite disbanding in 1985, Classix Nouveaux left a notable impact with their unique sound and style. Post-breakup, Sal Solo pursued a solo career, while other members continued in various musical endeavors. The band's legacy includes several posthumous releases, such as The Very Best Of Classix Nouveaux (2003) and Robot's Dance 'live' (2009), along with their 2021 single "Fix Your Eyes Up" which charted at number 10 on The Heritage Chart.
