London Posse was a British rap group formed in London in 1986, comprising Sipho the Human Beatbox, Rodney P, Bionic and DJ Biznizz. The collective emerged from early collaborations with Big Audio Dynamite and the UK underground, gaining attention when Sipho performed in the 1985 documentary Electrorock and later joined the 1986 Big Audio Dynamite tour. Their breakthrough came with the 1987 single "London Posse" (Big Life), which reached number 11 on the UK Independent Chart and showcased the first UK track featuring a beatboxer as the sole backing. In 1988, Rodney P and Bionic released "Money Mad" (Justice), which received significant radio play and set the stage for their debut album Gangster Chronicle (Mango Records, 1990), a reggae‑infused hip‑hop record described by NME as a “musical Molotov cocktail.” The group toured with Public Enemy and N.W.A., and later issued singles such as "Live Like The Other Half Do" (1989) and "How's Life in London" (1993) under Bullitt Records. After disbanding in 1995, London Posse briefly reformed in 1996 and released "Style" (Bullitt) before dissolving again; Sipho died in 2004. The group’s work has been reissued, notably the 2013 double‑CD reissue of Gangster Chronicle, preserving their contribution to the UK rap scene.
