Riccardo Zegna (born 1946 near Turin) is an Italian jazz pianist. During childhood, Zegna toured northern Italy with the Zegna Big Band led by his father, Ilario, playing congas and drums. Zegna began classical piano studies at age 13 and earned a diploma from the Nicolo Paganini Conservatory in 1970. In 1976, Zegna transitioned his career to jazz, performing at venues such as Turin's “Swing Club”. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Zegna collaborated with musicians including Buddy Tate, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, and George Coleman. His solo recording debut, Andalusa, appeared in 1996. In 1999, Zegna established a group with clarinettist Gabriele Mirabassi to explore the intersection of chamber music and jazz, producing the albums Piccolo Valzer and Barcarola. Zegna performed at the Southport International Jazz Festival and made frequent appearances at the Umbria Jazz Festival. His discography also included the album Carillon (2006).
