Thumlock, an Australian rock band from Wollongong, was formed in 1994 by drummer Greg Eshman, guitarist and vocalist Ben Lough, and bassist Wayne Stokes. In late 1995, they recorded a self-titled demo at Main Street Studios. Their debut EP, Dripping Silver Heat, was released in 1997, followed by their second EP, Lunar Mountain Sunrise, in 1999 via High Beam Music. Thumlock gained traction with their debut album, Emerald Liquid Odyssey, released in 2000 through High Beam Music and distributed in Europe by Beard of Stars Records. In 2001, they released the single "Rockin' Course", which received radio play. Their second album, Sojourns Lucid Magic, was released in 2002. Financial constraints led to the band's dissolution later that year.
