Jack The Lad, a British folk rock group from North East England, was formed in 1973 by former members of Lindisfarne: Rod Clements, Simon Cowe, and Ray Laidlaw. They were joined by Billy Mitchell. After the commercial failure of Lindisfarne's third album Dingly Dell, these musicians formed Jack The Lad to explore more traditional folk music territory. Their debut album, It's Jack The Lad (1974), featured contributions from Clements and Mitchell. The group released two more albums: The Old Straight Track (1974) and Rough Diamonds (1975). Despite critical acclaim, including being voted Folk Album of the Year by Melody Maker for The Old Straight Track, commercial success eluded them. After releasing their final album Jackpot (1976), Jack The Lad disbanded in 1976.
