Dorthe Kollo was born in Copenhagen on July 17, 1947. Her real name is Dorthe Larsen. The Danish singer is one of the best-known pop singers of the 1960s and 1970s in German-speaking countries. Her father worked as the conductor of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and encouraged her musical education at an early age. In addition to singing, Dorthe Kollo studied acting, dance and pantomime. She recorded her first record at the age of eight. At the age of twelve, she received a gold record in Denmark for "Åh, det er søndag", the Danish version of "Oh Lonesome Me". In 1963, Dorthe Kollo attempts her breakthrough at the German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden. One year later, she achieved her first major success in Germany with "Junger Mann mit roten Rosen". The single reached number 19 in the German charts. The hits "Dip-di-dip" and "Blondes Haar am Paletot" followed in 1965. Dorthe Kollo celebrated her final breakthrough in 1968 with "Sind Sie der Graf von Luxemburg?". The song climbed to number 5 in the German singles charts. In the same year, "Wärest du doch in Düsseldorf geblieben" was released . The single reaches number 10 in the German charts and wins second place in the German Schlager competition. Other well-known titles include "Jeder Schotte", "Seine Hoheit der Herr Kronprinz", "Ein rosaroter Apfelbaum", "Tobago Helloh" and "Du bringst Sonne in mein Herz".
