ALREADY NOW, BLUFF IS PART OF OUR FUTURE - none other than Nils Landgren proclaimed just about two years ago. At that point, the Hamburg-based quartet had already established itself as a force to be reckoned with in its north German surroundings. Sculpting and crafting the music of its band members with strong inspirations from across the Atlantic, BLUFF has created a signature sound, ranging from Jarrett-like rubato ballads to agile, dynamic Wilkins- and Aldana-esque power pieces. The four musicians know each other like the backs of their hands, creating a trusting, synergetic unit of a band.
Over the past five years, BLUFF has toured Germany extensively, including shows at the renowned ELBJAZZ and JazzBaltica Festivals as well as stints in Austria and Switzerland. Since the release of their debut Sleight of Hand with BERTHOLD records early last year, the quartet has been diligently working on new repertoire, all the while honing their craft and nurturing the playfulness of their music. The compositions are melodic and contoured, inviting the band to navigate winding forms as if on skates - challenging, yet all the more thrilling. The result is dynamic, sophisticated, ear candy.
Nils Landgren must have had a hunch, it seems like BLUFF is in fact here to stay.
