Y2J was formed in Taiwan by Yuming Lai and Jane Huang in Taitung County, Taiwan. Both contestants appeared on the 2007 season of One Million Star; Yuming Lai won the competition while Jane Huang finished seventh. Their collaboration was named after Yuming Lai’s initial, the number of members, and Jane Huang’s initial. The duo signed with Universal Music Taiwan in January 2008 and released their debut studio album Live For You on 25 August 2008, featuring the single "Live For You" and a Mandarin version of "We Rock" from the Disney Channel film Camp Rock. They followed with the album Defender on 11 June 2010, continuing to produce Mandarin pop and Taiwanese rock tracks. Y2J’s releases charted within the top ten of Taiwan’s Mandarin charts, and their participation in the 2008 Camp Rock promotion highlighted their cross‑media presence. The group remained active through the early 2010s.
