Erasmus Widmann, born on September 15, 1572, in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, was a German composer and organist. He received early musical education under Johannes Crusius and graduated from the University of Tübingen in 1590. Widmann's career began with organist positions in Eisenerz and Graz before returning to Schwäbisch Hall due to religious conflicts. He served as cantor and Latin school preceptor there, later becoming Kapellmeister and organist to Count Wolfgang II. of Hohenlohe in Weikersheim from 1602. Widmann's compositions include Geistliche Psalmen und Lieder (1604) and Die musikalische Kurtzweil (1611). He later moved to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, continuing his prolific output with works like Musicalischer Tugendspiegel. He died on October 31, 1634, in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
