Terence Judd, born on October 3, 1957 in London, was an English pianist who began playing the piano at age five. He won the National Junior Pianoforte Competition at ten and performed at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall by eleven. He studied under Eileen Joyce and Maria Curcio, debuting in the USA at fourteen and South America at fifteen. In 1975, he secured a shared third place at the Busoni Competition. Three years later, he received a shared fourth place at the Tchaikovsky Competition, leading to a Soviet tour. His performances of Tchaikovsky's "First Piano Concerto" and Prokofiev's "Third Piano Concerto" were recorded live and released later. He toured again in 1979 with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. His body was found washed up at Beachy Head on December 23, 1979. His parents established the Terence Judd Award for young pianists in his memory.
