Deathray was a rock band from Sacramento, California, formed in 1998 by Greg Brown and Victor Damiani of Cake, along with Dana Gumbiner. The trio recruited James Neil on drums and Max Hart on keyboards to complete the lineup. After selling over 3,000 copies of their EP White Sleeves, Deathray was signed to Capricorn Records. Their self-titled debut album, produced by Eric Valentine, was released in 2000. The band faced challenges during the collapse of Capricorn Records and a nationwide tour but regained control of their masters, releasing subsequent material on their own label, Doppler Records. Notable songs include "My Lunatic Friends/Now That I Am Blind" and "Let's be Friends". Deathray disbanded in July 2007. On February 5, 2026, guitarist and singer Greg Brown died at the age of 56.
