Brian Alexander Robertson, born 12 September 1948 in Glasgow, Scotland, is a Scottish singer, songwriter and keyboard player whose career began in the early 1970s. Brian Alexander Robertson trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and released his debut album Wringing Applause in 1973 on Ardent Records, but it would be six years before he entered the UK charts. In 1979 the single "Bang Bang" reached Number 2, followed by "Knocked It Off" (Number 8), "Kool in the Kaftan" (Number 17) and "To Be or Not to Be" (Number 9), all from his third album Initial Success (1980), which peaked at Number 32 on the UK Albums Chart. A duet with Maggie Bell on "Hold Me" entered the top 40 in 1981. Brian Alexander Robertson co‑wrote the 1982 hit "The Living Years" with Mike Rutherford of Genesis; the song topped charts in the United States, Canada, Australia and Ireland and was nominated for a Grammy in 1990. He continued to record albums such as Shadow of a Thin Man (1976), Bully for You (1981) and R&BA (1982). In 2022 he released a new version of "Silent Running" to support the Mail Force‑Ukraine Appeal, and a re‑issue of "The Living Years" was issued in 2020.
