Hervé Bourde, born on July 12, 1951, in Marseille, France, is a French jazz and improvisational musician known for his work as a saxophonist. Coming from a musical family, he studied at the Académie internationale de musique de Nice under Jean-Pierre Rampal and Alain Marion, earning the first prize in flute at the Conservatory of Marseille. In the 1970s, Bourde collaborated with notable figures such as Barney Wilen, Christian Vander, and Laurent Cugny. His breakthrough came with the release of his solo album Saxophonus in January 1981. Throughout the 1980s, he continued to collaborate with artists like Barre Phillips, John Surman, and Henri Texier. Notable works include Destinée (1982) with Merzak Mouthana, and Superbe Déménagement (1989). In the 1990s, he formed his own quartet, which later expanded into a quintet, and composed for various media, including theater, ballet, and film.
