The Bear Quartet, a Swedish indie rock band from Luleå, was formed in 1989 with core members Mattias Alkberg, Jari Haapalainen, and Peter Nuottaniemi, who also wrote most of the group's songs. The group released their debut album Penny Century on A West Side Fabrication in 1992. Following the departure of drummer Magnus Olsson, Urban Nordh joined the band, and they released several albums, including Cosy Den (1993), Family Affair (1993), and Revisited E.P (1994). In 1995, they released It Only Takes A Flashlight To Create A Monster EP, Everybody Else, Flux Detail, Holy Holy, and Tibet EP. The band's final releases were 89 (2009) and Monty Python (2010), both under Adrian Recordings. Throughout their career, The Bear Quartet collaborated with various artists, including Karin Dreijer and Mats Levén. Despite critical acclaim, the band remained relatively obscure outside Sweden. The Bear Quartet disbanded in 2010.
