Jelly Roll Morton’s Red Hot Peppers was a jazz recording group led by pianist and composer Jelly Roll Morton. Formed in Chicago in 1926, the ensemble featured rotating musicians drawn from the New Orleans jazz tradition. The group recorded extensively for Victor Records between 1926 and 1930, producing influential recordings such as “Black Bottom Stomp” and “Doctor Jazz”. After relocating to New York in 1928, Morton continued recording under the Red Hot Peppers name with different lineups. The name was no longer used after 1930. Later archival releases have collected these recordings, including The Saga of Mister Jelly Lord Vol. 1 (1973) and Vol. 2: From Chicago to New York 1927/1928 (1991).
