Karl Leister, born on June 15, 1937 in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, was a classical clarinet player who began his musical journey at a young age under the tutelage of his father. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and joined the Komische Oper Berlin as a clarinet soloist during his teenage years. In 1959, Leister became a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Herbert von Karajan, where he remained for three decades. During this period, he gained international recognition as both a soloist and chamber musician. He was a founding member of the Bläser der Berliner Philharmoniker ("Berlin Soloists") and co-founded the Ensemble Wien-Berlin. Notable recordings include Brahms' Clarinet Quintet in B Minor, Opus 115.
