Bruno Spoerri is a Swiss jazz and electronic musician who was born in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1935. He achieved early professional recognition as a saxophonist in the 1950s and is famous for pioneering electronic music in Switzerland and for receiving the Swiss Jazz Award for lifetime achievement (2017). Spoerri played the saxophone with ensembles including the Francis Notz Septett and toured with the Modern Jazz Group Freiburg in 1956. In the late 1960s, he began experimenting with electrified saxophones and synthesizers. His discography includes the studio recordings Jazz-Rock Experience (1970), Glückskugel (1971), and Voice of Taurus (1978). He also released the collaborative recording Toy Planet (1981) with Irmin Schmidt and the studio recording AX+BY+CZ+D=0 (1983). Spoerri composed music for films including Tauwetter (1977) and Teddy Bär (1983). He has authored and edited works on the history of Swiss music, including Jazz in der Schweiz (2005).
