Thee Unstrung was an English rock group formed in the United Kingdom, led by guitarist Ben Bailey, with members Steve Holbrook, Rob Power (later Bobby Cooper), and Ben Tweedy. The band entered the music scene through an early release, the single "Contrary Mary" in 2004, which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 59. In 2005, they released the single "Psycho", reaching number 41 on the UK charts, and followed with the album Lie, Cheat and Steal, distributed by Mercury Records after an initial signing to Alan McGee’s Poptones label. Thee Unstrung toured extensively in 2005, supporting their debut album. After a decade of activity, lineup changes occurred, with Ben Bailey founding His Lost Boys and other members forming the group 1984, which appeared on the Japanese compilation Sound of an Era II.
