Blue Angel was an American rockabilly band from New York City formed in the late 1970s. The group included Cyndi Lauper on vocals, John Turi on keyboards and saxophones, Johnny Morelli on guitar, Arthur "Rockin' A" Neilson on bass, and Lee Brovitz on drums. They gained attention from Polydor Records in 1977 and began recording their debut album, but faced delays due to Lauper's health issues and the label's financial problems. Their self-titled album, Blue Angel, was released in 1980, featuring the track "I'm Gonna Be Strong". The album received little promotion and failed to chart successfully. Financial struggles led to the band's dissolution later that year. Following her departure from Blue Angel, Cyndi Lauper launched a successful solo career, starting with She's So Unusual in 1983.
