Hotlegs, a British band formed in 1970, was formed by Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, Lol Creme, and Graham Gouldman. The group was known for their hit single "Neanderthal Man", which reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1970 and sold two million copies worldwide. Before Hotlegs, Stewart had been a member of The Mindbenders, while Godley and Creme were part of Frabjoy and Runcible Spoon. In August 1970, they briefly rebranded as Doctor Father for the single "Umbopo" but reverted to Hotlegs shortly after, recording their debut album Thinks: School Stinks in March 1971. The band's early success was marked by their innovative use of drum layering on a four-track machine at Strawberry Studios, which they co-owned with Gouldman and Peter Tattersall. Despite touring with The Moody Blues and releasing additional singles like "Lady Sadie", the band faced chart failures and disbanded. Stewart, Godley, Creme, and Gouldman later reformed as 10cc in 1972, achieving significant success with hits such as "I'm Not In Love" and "Rubber Bullets". Hotlegs' impact was further recognized with the release of You Didn't Like It Because You Didn't Think Of It: The Complete Sessions 1970-1971 in 2012, which compiled their early recordings and provided a retrospective look at their brief but influential career.
