Professional Murder Music, a metal band from Los Angeles, California, was founded in 1999 by Roman Marisak and Jeff Schartoff. The project was initially conceived as a musical collaboration, with Marisak previously involved in Human Waste Project. The lineup expanded shortly after formation to include drummer Justin Bennett and guitarist Brian Harrah, and the band subsequently signed with Geffen Records. In 2001, they released their self-titled debut album. The album also featured contributions from musicians such as Dave Ogilvie and Troy Van Leeuwen. Tracks including “Slow,” “Fall Again,” and a cover of The Cure’s “A Night Like This” appeared on various film soundtracks, including End of Days, Ginger Snaps, and Scream If You Can. Following internal and label-related conflicts and subsequent lineup changes, the band moved toward independent production. In 2003, they released their second album Looking Through under Wormhole Records.
