Mary Stallings, born in 1939 in San Francisco, California, is an American jazz vocalist. She began singing in her local church choir and by her teens was performing in nightclubs such as the Hungry i and The Purple Onion. Her early career included collaborations with notable musicians like Ben Webster, Cal Tjader, Earl Hines, and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1962, she released Cal Tjader Plays, Mary Stallings Sings for Fantasy Records. Throughout the 1960s, she toured extensively. From 1969 to 1972, she had a residency as singer for the Count Basie Orchestra. After semi-retirement, Stallings returned to singing in the late 1980s, releasing notable albums such as I Waited for You (1994) with pianist Gene Harris and Manhattan Moods (1997) with Monty Alexander. Her album Remember Love (2005), produced by Geri Allen, peaked at number 23 on the Billboard chart.
