The Gypsies is a Danish hip-hop and R&B band formed in Copenhagen in 2000. Distinguishing themselves through a live performance style that avoids backing tracks or turntables, the group is fronted by vocalists Shaka Loveless and Benjamin Kissi. The ensemble originally performed as The Electric Gypsies with a rock-oriented focus before transitioning to an urban aesthetic following the recruitment of Kissi. Under their current name, the band released their debut album, One Hand Up, in 2007 through Superstar Records. The album’s lead single, “Part of Me”, reached number 10 on the Danish Boogie chart in January 2008. Their second studio effort, For the Feeble Hearted, followed in 2009. Throughout their career, the band has served as the backing group for Danish artists including Jokeren and Outlandish. Additionally, the collective has opened for international acts such as The Roots and Fugees during their tours in Denmark. Loveless, the son of blues singer James Loveless, also established a successful solo career during the band's tenure.
