Release Music Orchestra is a German group from Hamburg, founded in 1974. The founding members were Manfred Rürup on keyboards, Bernd Kiefer on bass, and Wolfgang "Zabba" Lindner on drums. They emerged from the Release-Bewegung, an organization that supported drug addicts against criminalization and helped them reintegrate. Their first public performance took place in 1974 at the Audimax of the University of Hamburg. This performance, along with an Amsterdam recording, was released as their debut LP Life. The band's lineup evolved to include Norbert Jacobsen on clarinet and Margit "Maya" Haberland. Their subsequent albums included Garuda (1975), Get the Ball (1976), Beyond the Limit (1978), and News (1979). The group disbanded around 1979 due to internal differences. Posthumously, a live performance from Bremen in 1978 was released on CD in 2004.
