Martin Schmeding, born in 1975 in Minden, Germany, is a church musician and concert organist. He studied at the Hanover University of Music, Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, and Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf under teachers including Jean Boyer and Ulrich Bremsteller. In 1999, Schmeding succeeded Oskar Gottlieb Blarr as cantor and organist at the Neanderkirche in Düsseldorf. His notable recordings include Bach: Orgeltranskriptionen An Der Stumm/Goll-Orgel Der Stadtkirche Durlach (2012) and the complete organ works by Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Schmidt, and Max Reger. He has received numerous awards, including prizes at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 1999 and the Echo Klassik for his recording of an organ version of Bach's Goldberg Variations in 2010. Schmeding is a professor at both the Freiburg University of Music and the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre.
