Hannelore Auer (born Hannelore Auer on 30 May 1942 in Linz, Austria) was an Austrian singer who entered the music scene after winning second place in a Viennese singing contest in 1957 with the titles "Tausendmal möchte ich dich küssen" and "Fällt das gelbe Laub im Oktober". She began recording with Austrian labels such as His Master’s Voice and Parlophone before signing with the German house Electrola in 1959, where she issued seven singles that did not chart. In 1960 she represented Germany at the European Song Contest and won the competition, boosting her profile. Her breakthrough came in 1962 with the German version of the film It Happened in Athens title track "Was in Athen geschah"; the song remained in the German Musikmarkt chart for seventeen weeks. Hannelore Auer signed with Decca in 1963, producing six singles, including duets with Teddy Parker and Manfred Schnelldorfer. She released the LP Ein Busserl aus Wien in 1968 under Metronome, and later collaborated with her husband Heino on the 1984 EMI album Die Liebe ist das Gold des Lebens. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, she appeared in 24 films and seven TV movies, often in cameo singing roles. Hannelore Auer passed away on 8 November 2023 in Kitzbühel, Austria.
