Sophia George, born on February 21, 1964, in Jamaica, is a singer known for her contributions to reggae music. Before her music career took off, she worked as a teacher for hearing-impaired learners. Her breakthrough came with the release of “Girlie Girlie” in 1985, which topped the RJR chart in Jamaica for 11 weeks and reached number 7 on the UK charts. The song also achieved significant international success, charting at number 3 in Argentina, number 2 in the Netherlands, and within the top 20 in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. “Girlie Girlie” was written by Sangie Davis and featured as title music in the film Going Overboard. Following this success, George released her debut album Freshin 1986, which included hits like “Lazy Body”, “It Burn Mi Belly”, and the duet “Ain’t No Meaning”. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, she continued to release albums such as For Everyone (1991), Latest Slang (1992), and Sexy Dumb Dumb (1995). Notable songs from this period include “Love Again” (1987) and “Physique” (1992). George married her manager Ronald Chung, and they relocated to Miami before settling in Los Angeles.
