De fofftig Penns was formed in 2003 by Malte Battefeld, Jakob Köhler and Torben Otten in Bremen‑Nord, Germany, and the group later added Simoin as producer; the trio initially performed as a school project and released the single "Platt" in 2010 on BoingBoingRecords. The group’s breakthrough came with the 2013 single "Löppt", which charted in Germany at Number 87 and earned them a spot in the Bundesvision Song Contest where they placed seventh, followed by the release of the album Dialektro on 27 September 2013 under Welcome Home Music. In 2014 they issued the EP Een vun de Fofftig Penns, and in 2015 released "Gröön un witt" and "Dascha 'n Ding"; the latter was accompanied by a collaboration with Klaus und Klaus on the single "An de Noordseeküste" in 2016. The band’s 2018 album Dat läppert sik: Dat Beste vun De fofftig Penns compiled their best work, and that same year the group disbanded following a farewell tour. Their career earned them the Heinrich Schmidt Barrien Prize in 2012, the Hamburg Newcomers of the Year award in 2013, and the Hamburg Song of the Year for "Löppt" in 2013, marking significant recognition for their Low German hip‑hop and electronic music output.
