Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, born July 28, 1942 in Tokyo as 堤 剛, was a Japanese cellist. He began studying music at age six and made his debut performing Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Tokyo Philharmonic at twelve. Tsutsumi won first prize at the Pablo Casals International Cello Competition in 1963. He earned an Artist Diploma from Indiana University in 1965 and performed with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. Tsutsumi collaborated with notable musicians including Seiji Ozawa, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Yo-Yo Ma. He served as Visiting Professor at University of Western Ontario from 1967 to 1984 and Professor of Cello at Indiana University from 1988 to 2006. Tsutsumi also led Toho Gakuen School of Music from 2004 to 2014.
