The Sun is a rock band with an extraordinary history, an evolution of Sun Eats Hours, formed in 1997. Before signing a deal with Sony Music, the band had already released four albums distributed in Europe, Japan, and Brazil. In 2004, they were awarded the M.E.I. award for "Best Italian Punk Rock Band in the World".
The decision to compose in Italian and use music to convey universal values in the service of the common good and life was made in 2008. Leader Francesco Lorenzi made this decision after an existential crisis he experienced in 2007 during a major tour of 102 concerts in 10 countries. This decisive phase of transformation occurred through a journey of faith and a closeness to Christianity, a journey Lorenzi later shared with the rest of the group. Thanks to friendship and the strong decisions of each band member to break free from various addictions, the band was reborn in 2009, overcoming numerous difficulties.
The band has shared the stage with acts such as Deep Purple, The Cure, The Offspring, Muse, and other world-renowned artists, making live performances their forte. With over 1,000 concerts in 20 countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Central and South America, The Sun is one of the most widely performed Italian bands.
In 2016, for the quality of their intense songwriting and human development, leader Lorenzi was awarded the Medal of the Pontificate by Pope Francis for "his contribution to the development of Christian humanism and its artistic expressions around the world".
The Sun represented Italy at the World Youth Days in Krakow in 2016, Panama in 2019, and Lisbon in 2023.
In 2021, they were named Save the Planet ambassadors for their commitment to protecting creation. With the song "Il mio miglior difetto" (My Best Flaw), they are the soundtrack to Caritas 2022/2024 global campaign #TogetherWe.
On the occasion of the band's 25th anniversary concert in Assisi, TV2000 produced the documentary film"La vita che ci voleva" (The Life We Wanted), by Pierluigi Vito, which aired on TV2000 on Christmas Day 2022.
Singer F. Lorenzi has published the bestselling autobiographical novel "La strada del Sole" (The Road of the Sun), translated into 8 languages, and "I segreti della Luce", a modern essay on spiritual combat, with Rizzoli/BUR, as well as an illustrated children's novel, "La musica del bosco" (The Music of the Forest) (Effatà Editrice).
In 2024, with the song "Senza te non si può fare", The Sun (featuring Angelo Maugeri) provided the Italian soundtrack for the fourth film series of "The Chosen", a global hit series about the life of Jesus. In 2025, after animating the Jubilee of Families with their music, children, grandparents, and the elderly were received in a private audience by Pope Leo XIV, becoming the first band to officially meet him.
Together with the fan club and social promotion association Officina del Sole, the band promotes numerous solidarity initiatives and pilgrimage and volunteer experiences, which have attracted thousands of people from across Italy and abroad. Consistent with their story of conversion, also fueled by a deep connection to the Holy Land, since 2014 the band has promoted, in collaboration with the friars of the Custody of the Holy Land, pilgrimages to the Holy Land as well as to Fatima, Santiago, and Lourdes.
Along with their concert activity, for years The Sun have been actively involved in initiatives aimed at bringing together and developing young people and the community, as well as raising awareness on issues of addiction of all kinds, both in schools and institutions.
