Boudjemaa El Ankis, born Boudjemâa Mohamed Arezki on June 17, 1927, in Algiers, Algeria, was a singer and musician. Raised in the Casbah district of Algiers, he began his musical journey by imitating Tino Rossi and later learned to play the guitar. El Ankis' career took off in the late 1940s when he started performing with local troupes. Throughout his career, El Ankis released several notable albums, including Ya el ouahdani (2000) and In Kabyle (2015). His songs in Algerian Arabic, such as "Tchaourou 'Alia" and "Rah El Ghali Rah" were popular with Algerian youth. El Ankis passed away on September 2, 2015, at the age of 88 in Algiers.
