Mako, born May 10 1991 in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan, is a Japanese singer‑songwriter whose career began with a cover of Taylor Swift’s "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", which gained viral attention and led to her debut mini‑album 22 in 2014. The release topped streaming charts, and the single was certified gold by the RIAJ in August 2014. In 2015, Mako performed the campaign song "Shiny Stars" for NHK’s Hokkaido radio initiative and released "Seishun no Tsubasa" as the theme for the Japanese release of La Famille Bélier, later included on her album First Kiss (November 4, 2015). She continued to issue singles such as "Koigokoro" (January 20, 2016. Mako transferred to Sony Music Japan in August 2019, toured Japan, Taiwan, and Shanghai in 2019. She remained active until leaving her agency Starbase in June 2024.
