Jacques Pépino, known professionally as David Christie, and born on January 1, 1948 in Tarare, Rhône, France, is a singer. He began his career as a singer‑songwriter in 1965 under his birth name, first recording with the Lyon label Soder before signing with CBS. His early releases, including a 1967 45 rpm record for Fontana featuring four original tracks, failed to chart, but a 1968 contract with Disc'AZ yielded the single "Deux petites perles bleues", which reached number 28 on the Salut Les Copains hit‑parade on May 15, 1968. Throughout the 1970s he switched labels several times, issuing singles such as "Maria" (1971) and "Love is the Most Important Thing" (1977), but his career stalled until 1982 when the single "Saddle Up" became a hit and was later included on numerous 1980s compilations. He died on May 11, 1997 in Capbreton, Landes, France, three months after the death of his daughter Julia, and was interred with his ashes dispersed off the Landes coast.
