String Sisters is a folk supergroup consisting of six leading female fiddlers from around the world. The group was initially assembled by Shetland fiddler Catriona MacDonald for a concert at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, Scotland, in January 1998. The lineup includes Annbjørg Lien from Norway, Liz Knowles and Liz Carroll from the United States, Emma Härdelin from Sweden, and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh from Ireland, who also provides vocals. It was not until 2005 that they finalized their group's name. Due to their solo careers, the group's debut album Live was not released until 2007, while the band toured throughout 2009 and in 2010. In 2018, they released their second and debut studio album, Between Wind and Water. String Sisters have performed at notable festivals such as Tønder Festival in Denmark on August 25th, 2016.
