Kim Van Hee, known professionally as Kim Kay, was born on February 22, 1978, in Termonde, Belgium. She is a singer who gained prominence in the dance and electronic music genres. In 1998, Kim Kay participated in the Sound Mix Show, where she performed a cover of France Gall's "Poupée de cire poupée de son", which caught the attention of audiences and industry professionals alike. This performance led to her breakthrough with the release of her debut album La Vie en Lilali that same year. The album featured the hit single "Lilali", a dance adaptation of a traditional Breton air, as well as covers of popular songs like "Poupée de cire poupée de son" and "Banana Split". In 1999, she released several singles including "Oui oh oui" and "Bam bam", further establishing her presence in the music scene. Her second album, Kim Kay's Hits!, was released in 2000, featuring new versions of previous hits and additional dance covers. Throughout her career, Kim Kay continued to release notable singles such as "Open your Heart" (2001), "Direction le soleil" (2002), and "Abracadabrant" (2003). In 2004, she was diagnosed with cancer, which forced her to take a hiatus from her musical career.
