Shai Hulud is an American metalcore band formed in Pompano Beach, Florida, in 1995, and later based in Poughkeepsie, New York, by Matt Fox on guitar and Dave Silber on bass. The band's name is derived from Frank Herbert's novel Dune. In 1996, they released their first demo and signed with Revelation Records. Their debut EP, A Profound Hatred of Man, was released in 1997. Their lineup underwent several changes, including the addition of Chad Gilbert on vocals and Matt Fletcher on guitar. The band released their debut album, Hearts Once Nourished with Hope and Compassion, in 1997. In 2003, they released That Within Blood Ill-Tempered. Their music is characterized by its hardcore punk and progressive metal influences.
