Monica Heldal, born on January 24, 1991 in Bergen, Norway, is a Norwegian singer and songwriter. She began playing and composing music at the age of 16, writing her first song "Silly Willy", which later appeared on her debut album Boy from the North. Her breakthrough came with the release of Boy from the North on November 4, 2013. This album earned her two Spellemannprisen awards in 2013: Rookie of the Year and Best Pop Solo Artist, as well as the Bendiksenprisen. Heldal's musical style is influenced by folk and blues, with notable inspirations including Rory Gallagher and Nick Drake. In 2012, she collaborated with Ben Howard on his The Burgh Island EP, contributing guitar and vocals to "Burgh Island". Her subsequent albums include The One in the Sun (2016) and Ravensdale (2021).
