Jens Thomas, born Jens Thomas in 1970 in Braunschweig, Germany, is a German pianist, voice performer, and composer. He studied piano at the Musikhochschule Hamburg under Dieter Glawischnig and began his career as a pianist with the band Triocolor, releasing their albums Up to Ow in 1994 and KlängeMachenGehen in 1997. The group won the Europ'Jazz Contest Belgium in 1994. Thomas's first solo release was Endlich allein, published in 1997. From 2000 to 2003, he collaborated with Paolo Fresu and Antonello Salis as part of the Morricone Trio, releasing the album You Can't Keep a Good Cowboy Down- Jens Thomas Plays Ennio Morricone. Notable albums include Pure Joy (2003) and Speed of Grace (2012), in which he transformed AC/DC's hard rock into chamber music ballads. Thomas has also ventured into theater music, composing for productions such as Othello at the Münchner Kammerspiele. He received awards, including the SWR-Jazzpreis in 2000 and the Internationalen Jazzpreis Nürnberg.
