George Anthony Thomas Weldon was a British conductor. Weldon studied at the Royal College of Music under Malcolm Sargent and Aylmer Buesst. He conducted regional orchestras before being appointed conductor of the City of Birmingham Orchestra in 1943. Weldon was dismissed in 1950 following unsubstantiated rumors regarding Ruth Gipps. In 1952, he became assistant to Sir John Barbirolli at the Hallé Orchestra and conducted works at the Cheltenham Music Festival. Weldon’s recordings included The Sleeping Beauty (1958). He died in 1963 while on a conducting tour.
