Charlie Elzer Louvin, known professionally as Charlie Louvin, was born on July 7, 1927, in Section, Alabama. He began singing at age eight and started his professional career with his brother Ira as the Louvin Brothers, performing on local radio programs in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The duo gained prominence by adding secular music to their gospel repertoire and became members of the Grand Ole Opry in 1955. Throughout the 1960s, Charlie Louvin's popularity waned, leading to a split with Ira in 1963. After Ira's death in 1965, Charlie continued his solo career, making numerous appearances on the Grand Ole Opry and acting as an elder statesman for country music. In 2001, the Louvin Brothers were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He died on January 26, 2011, in Wartrace, Tennessee.
