Phil Baugh (1936–1990) was an American country guitarist and session musician born in Olivehurst, California. Baugh received multiple honors in 1965, including the Academy of Country Music “Best Guitarist” award and being named “Instrumentalist of the Year” by both Billboard and Cash Box. In 1962, Baugh signed with Crest Records and recorded the song “Country Guitar”, which reached number 16 on the Billboard country chart in 1965. The single “One Man Band” reached number 27 that same year. Baugh’s discography includes the albums Country Guitar (1965), California Guitar (1969), and Country Guitar II (1975). He performed in Ray Price’s band starting in 1969 and moved to Nashville in 1975 to work as a session musician. During the 1980s, Baugh was a member of The Nashville Superpickers, receiving a Grammy Award nomination in 1979. Baugh died on November 4, 1990.
