Grand National is a British alternative rock group formed in London by Rupert Lyddon and Lawrence Rudd, both DJs and remix producers. The duo began collaborating in the early 2000s, blending electronic textures with new‑wave ambience and psychedelic undertones. In May 2004, the full‑length album Kicking The National Habit was released, featuring the single "Playing In The Distance", which was later remixed by The Glimmers and Sasha in August 2005. The band expanded live performances with four additional musicians, allowing them to tour extensively across the UK and Europe. In 2007, they issued the compilation B‑Sides, Remixes & Rarities on 22 April, followed by the studio album A Drink & A Quick Decision, arriving in September 2007. Grand National's work received critical attention within niche charts and earned recognition for its fusion of rock and electronic elements, though it did not achieve mainstream chart placement.
