Robb Jenner Johnson, born on December 25, 1955 in England, is a British musician and songwriter known for blending folk and punk with political satire. He began his career playing in folk clubs during the 1970s and ran a folk club at the University of Sussex before forming the band Grubstreet, which disbanded in 1983. Johnson released his debut solo album In Amongst the Rain in 1985 under his own label, Irregular Records. He then formed The Ministry of Humour with Mark Shilcock and Graham Barnes, but returned to solo performances after its dissolution. In 1997, he composed the song cycle "Gentle Men", based on his grandfathers' experiences in World War I, which was performed at the Passchendaele Peace Concert. Johnson has released over 40 albums since 1985, including collaborations with artists like Pip Collings and Roy Bailey. Notable works include Songs for the New Jerusalem (1987), Eurotopia (2019), and "Tony Skinner's Lad" (2020).
