Formed in 1995, Flook is an instrumental folk band featuring British and Irish musicians. The group's name is a cross between flute and folk. One of the most innovative bands of its kind, Flook stands out for its original compositions in the traditional style. Renowned for the flute playing of Brian Finnegan, Sarah Allen and Michael McGoldrick (who left in 1997), the upbeat rhythms of John Joe Kelly on bodhrán, the sophisticated arrangements and strings of guitarist Ed Boyd, Flook has reinvented the genre without ever betraying its roots. The band released the studio albums Flatfish (1999), which gave its name to their label Flatfish Records, Rubai (2002) and Haven (2005), before going their separate ways in 2008. Back on stage five years later, they also returned to the studio to record Ancora (2019) and Sanju (2025), a medley of linked tracks.
