Isidore Godfrey, born Israel Gotfryd in 1900 in London, was a British music conductor. He trained at the Guildhall School of Music, studying piano under George B. Aitken and briefly studying conducting under Julius Harrison. He joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as chorus master and assistant musical director of one of its touring companies in 1925, and became the company's musical director in 1929 following Harry Norris' retirement. He conducted the company’s performances for nearly four decades until his retirement in 1968, leading numerous tours. Godfrey conducted all eleven Gilbert and Sullivan operas performed by the company at the time, as well as several BBC broadcasts from the Savoy Theatre. In 1965, he was awarded the OBE. His albums include The Pirates of Penzance (1968), Patience (1989), and The Best of Gilbert and Sullivan (2001). Godfrey passed away in 1977.
