Soo Bae, born in Seoul, South Korea, is a cellist who began playing at age six. She moved to Toronto at eight and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music before earning her Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia in 2001. Bae's career started with performances with the Korean Canadian Symphony at age 11. In 2006, she won the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank National Competition, receiving a three-year loan of the Bonjour Stradivarius Cello. She has collaborated with notable musicians, including Paquito D’Rivera and Mark O'Connor. Her discography includes Piatti's 12 Caprices for Cello (2011).
