Gintaras Rinkevičius, born on February 20, 1960 in Lithuania, is a conductor who studied at the M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, and Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 1985, Rinkevičius won the Herbert von Karajan Fund International Competition for Conductors in Berlin. He founded the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra in 1989 and served as artistic director and chief conductor of the Latvian National Opera from 1996 to 2003. Rinkevičius has conducted notable orchestras such as the Berliner Symphoniker and the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed in prestigious venues including Salzburg, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Champs Elysées Theatre in Paris. He has staged operas at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and has taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
