Martin Welzel is a German organist and musicologist born on November 11, 1972, in Vechta. He studied with Michael Landsky, Wilfried Langosz, and Käte van Tricht before enrolling at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in 1993. Welzel received the B-Examen in 1997, the A-Examen in 1999, and a soloist diploma in 2001. He completed a Doctor of Musical Arts in 2005 at the University of Washington with the dissertation Jeanne Demessieux (1921–1968): a critical examination of her life. Welzel served as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Saar and a lecturer at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. From 2013 to 2021, he was an organist at the Theatinerkirche and the Munich Cathedral. His discography included the studio recordings Max Reger: Orgelwerke Vol. 6 (2005), Vol. 8 (2008), and Vol. 10 (2010). In 2023, Welzel became the main organist at the Stadtkirche St. Nikolaus in Wil and a department head at the Diözesanen Kirchenmusikschule St. Gallen.
