Marat Bisengaliev, born on March 15, 1962, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, is a violinist and conductor. He began his musical training at the K. Bayseitov Republican Secondary Special Music School in 1969, graduated in 1979, and later attended the Kurmangazy Alma-Ata State Conservatoire from 1979 to 1981. He won the Leipzig International Bach Competition in 1988. Bisengaliev's career took off when he was invited to tour England in 1989, where his performance of Jean Sibelius' violin concerto earned him a recording contract with Naxos Records. He also won the International Nicanor Zabaleta Competition in 1991. Notable achievements included the Independent Platinum Tarlan Award and the Government Medal of Honour in Kazakhstan in 2000. Bisengaliev founded the West Kazakhstan Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003 and became Artistic Director of the Symphony Orchestra of India in 2006.
