Nicolas Koeckert, born November 9, 1979, in Munich, Germany, is a German violinist of Brazilian origin. At age five, he received his first violin from his grandfather and began his academic studies at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg with Grigori Zhislin at 16. He won the first prize at the 'International Competition for Young Violinists Novosibirsk' in 2001 and became the first German to win a prize at the 'International Tchaikovsky Competition' in Moscow in 2002. Koeckert has performed with orchestras across Europe, Asia, Brazil, Mexico, and North America, collaborating with conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Sir Colin Davis, and Andris Nelsons. His notable recordings include Ballade Sonata for solo violin No. 3 by Eugène Ysaÿe and the album Russian And Slavonic Miniatures by Fritz Kreisler, which was selected as Recording Of The Month in 2006 by both The Strad Magazine and Naxos in Germany. Koeckert has taught regularly, including at the Vienna Conservatory.
